Jenny created this video, “to help cancer patients and survivors to know that someone has true compassion for them and wants them to be well and happy.”

The title of this DVD would indicate that the Yoga practice included within, would be a specific program for individuals who actually have cancer, or are recovering and healing from cancer. While it is an amazing practice for those healing from cancer, I found it to be a great yoga practice for those who are required to sit at a desk all day, and are in need of a way to increase circulation. It is also extremely beneficial for the elderly, individuals who are wheelchair bound, those who are in need of building strength and flexibility after an accident, or someone looking for an oxygenating and strength building practice, but is not quite ready to hop on a yoga mat.

Compassionate Yoga for Cancer Care is an excellent DVD that features 3 yoga sessions; 15 minutes, 20 minutes and 25 minutes in length. The workouts are gentle, yet effective, and each practice is performed from the comfort of your chair.

Yoga has many benefits which include, but are not limited to the following: the ability to oxygenate the blood, lower blood pressure, increase flexibility, improve respiration, improve circulation, strengthen and tone muscles, improve posture, aid in weight loss, and clear and calm the mind.

“Yoga is simply a beautiful practice to bring one more in-tune to the body, the breath and ourselves. Yoga is about releasing the pressure of life and feeling the peace within.” -Jenny Mayor

November 24th, 2014Purposeful Pumpkin

David Christopher, M.H.

‘Tis the season! Which means it is a great time to enjoy a mineral dense super food that is a virtual medicine cabinet. Pumpkin not only has the color of carrots, but it is also tremendously good tasting, low in calories, and contains many specific nutrients for the eyes. In fact a slice of pumpkin pie contains 200% of the required daily intake of Vitamin A, which is so desperately needed by your eyes. It also contains a cornucopia of carotenoids, including beta-carotene, which is converted by the liver to, yep, you guessed it! Vitamin A…in case the 200% in that pie wasn’t enough.

The Zeaxanthin found in pumpkin is a powerful anti-oxidant and specifically helps filter UV light, protecting the eyes and lessening the incidence of macular degeneration. It is also high in lutein which is beneficial to the health of the macula lutea of the eyes. High amounts of Vitamin C in pumpkin is great for tissue integrity, strengthening the vascular system and helping to keep skin firm and youthful. It is also loaded with the B-complex vitamins such as folates, niacin, and Vitamins B-1, 2 and 6. It contains ample amounts of Vitamin K and a wide range of tocopherols, making the Vitamin E content exceptional as well. Pumpkin is also high in Zinc (one of the best anti-oxidants), Potassium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Manganese, Calcium, Iron, Copper, Selenium and Sodium.

Pumpkin seeds, like all seeds, help prevent cancer. They are also high in the amino-acid Tryptophan, which we have all heard is the substance in turkey that triggers sleep. It is also a pre-curser to Serotonin, a neuro transmitter linked to feelings of wellbeing. Pumpkin seeds promote good cholesterol levels, a healthy prostate, and are one of the best food remedies for ridding the body of parasites.

Enjoy the Holidays by eating more pumpkin and its accompanying spices. It will help you with weight loss, getting plenty of sleep, and feeling better for the New Year.

October 14th, 2014Natural Anti-Oxidants

David Christopher M.H.

The plant kingdom produces anti-oxidants to counter the oxygen and probable oxidative damage which is created in its production of carbon from CO2. Scientists have observed that people, who eat large amounts of fruits and vegetables high in anti-oxidants, are less likely to develop cardio vascular disease and cancer than those eating less of those foods. It has also been noted that Green Tea, which is unprocessed, is extremely high in anti-oxidants where black tea which is the same plant, but processed, is high in hydrogen peroxide which is reactive oxygen.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School have shown that one of the causes of heart disease is the free radical oxygen damage to LDLs, lipid and protein substances that deliver fatty acids to cells. Free radical oxygen also plays a role in diseases as diverse as diabetes, dementia and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Even though supplements neutralize free radical oxygen in test tubes it hasn’t translated to usefulness in the body. Unfortunately, supplements of anti-oxidants have proven worthless if not harmful. The best example of this failure is beta-carotene. It was observed in the 1970’s that people who ate a lot of carrots, which are high in beta-carotenes, had protection against cancer. In 1992 researchers at the National Cancer Institute recruited 18,000 participants who were at high risk of developing cancer because of smoking or asbestos exposure. Half were given beta-carotene and half a placebo. The trial was supposed to last for six years but was halted two years early after discovering that those taking the supplement were developing cancer 28% more than the controls who were receiving a placebo.

The famed nurses’ study that tracked the health of 87,000 female nurses showed a 47% decrease, in cancer rates, for those consuming vitamin E rich foods. However Vitamin E supplements have not shown similar positive results. For positive results, we should get our anti-oxidants from foods, not supplements. Fresh Juicing of fruits and vegetables is natures’ way of supplementation.

Here is a list of anti-oxidant foods:

Blue and red berries and grapes

All nuts especially walnuts, pecans, and Brazil nuts

Beans especially pinto and red beans

Cherries, plums and apples

June 30th, 2014Janie V.

Janie V. was born and raised in New Jersey. She has worked in a medical environment for over twenty-five years. After raising three children with her husband Frank of thirty years, it was her regular routine to get a medical checkup each year. In the eighth month of two thousand twelve, she had a mammogram done. The test results came back positive. She had developed breast cancer in her right breast. The doctor recommended that she get treatment and surgery. He also discouraged researching breast cancer on the internet. In other words, he was the final authority when it came to breast cancer.

Janie decided to try to follow the doctor’s orders. She was treated with chemotherapy every 3 weeks for 5 treatments which also included a shot to force her bones to produce white blood cells. Just before her fifth chemo treatment the nurse drew blood and her white blood cell count was low. The chemo doctor decided to delay it for a week. The following week she had her fifth chemo treatment at a lower dosage. She felt as if her body was getting weaker and weaker. She didn’t know how much more of this type of treatment her body could handle.

At about this time, a friend of Franks’ (who is a student at the School of Natural Healing) was giving him information and praying that Janie would consider another form of treatment. He was giving them information, websites and periodicals. Frank gladly took this information, but stood with his wife, knowing that she had to make this important decision for herself. On the second month of two thousand thirteen, Janie started on the mucus less diet. She took several of Dr. Christopher’s formulas and changed her eating habits drastically.

After about four months, she went back to her Surgeon for a follow up. Janie asked him when she should get her next mammogram. The doctor recommended that it be done after she was finished with her radiation. When she told him that she was not getting the radiation treatment he became livid. He began to belittle her telling her that if she didn’t, she would have a fifty percent chance of getting the cancer back in two years. He also implied that a change of diet would have little to no effect on her cancer. He argued with her saying, “Don’t you want to be around for your Grandchildren?” Needless to say Janie felt discouraged but was determined not to have the radiation treatment.

The following day, Janie and Frank made a trip to visit her father in Georgia. As they headed out, they prayed to YaHuWeh to give them guidance with their situation. On their way to Georgia, they stopped at a hotel for the night. Before they began to settle in to rest, Frank turned on the T.V. While flipping through the channels, he stumbled upon a doctor who was speaking about how nutrition can help fight cancer. He called Janie over and soon they were both watching the doctor explain how a plant based life style could help prevent cancer. They anxiously waited until the end of the program so they could get more information about this doctor. They found out his name was Dr. Fuhrman (author of Eat to Live) and he was located one hour away from their home in New Jersey! They agreed that this was an answer to their prayers.

After they had returned from Georgia, she made an appointment with Dr. Benson (Dr. Fuhrman’s associate) and began to change the way she thought about nutrition. While she started to change her eating habits, Frank decided to join her and they were able to make drastic changes to their habits together. Together they viewed the documentary, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”, and it began to educate them on natural foods and a natural lifestyle. She started to lose weight (over 30 pounds), feel great, and was alive with vigor. Her pant size went into a single digit. Janie was getting her energy back. She cut out most of the dairy and meat in her diet. The tingling in her fingers, which had been a side effect to the chemotherapy, started to go away.

After about two months, she went back to her doctors who had worked with her through the chemotherapy for another checkup. They encouraged her to get another mammogram. The test results showed that no cancer remained. It was gone. But even as she breathed a sigh of relief, the doctor informed her that they had found an abnormal calcium build up in her other breast. But she did not let this discourage her. In fact, she was even more determined to follow through and take care of her health.

At her doctor’s appointment with Dr. Fuhrman’s office, she met with his associate Dr. Benson. He shared a nutritional plan called the G- BOMBS. G-BOMBS stands for greens, berries, onions, mushrooms, beans and seeds. This nutritional punch would help to prevent the cancer from returning again.

Today Janie is a miracle testimony of what the Creator YaHuWeH wants all his children to have: Health, Wellness, Happiness, Peace and Knowledge of how to maintain it and to share it with others.

Are you excited? I am! Let’s get healthy!

November 11th, 2013Pumpkin Panacea

David Christopher M.H.

When Europeans discovered America they found a plethora of new flora. We have mentioned the importance of the discovery of the capsicum family in previous issues, and everyone knows about the discovery of corn and how it has benefited mankind. Another great find was the discovery of the family of squash. Pumpkin is a Native American squash that is so popular that it is now grown on all continents except Antarctica. Many consider it as a super food withwonderful medicinal qualities. Just one cup supplies 245% of the daily required value for Vitamin A. It also contains good amounts of the B complex, Vitamin C, K, and with the seeds it contains the full spectrum of vitamin E (alpha, delta and gama-Tocopherols plus the newly discovered Tocomonoenols). It is also a good source of Copper (14%), Iron (10%), and contains Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Selenium and Zinc. The seeds also contain Zinc at the rate of 10 mg. per 3.5 oz. Just the color of pumpkins would indicate a high Carotene content, having both Carotene A (amounting to 515 mcg.) and Carotene B (3100 mcg.) Other phyto-nutrients include Crypto-xanthin B (2145 mcg.) and Lutein-zeaxanthin (1500mcg.) All excellent for good eyesight, a healthy heart and wrinkle free skin.

Pumpkins are high in nutrients and also high in fiber but low in calories, making them a good food for weight loss. While losing weight with pumpkin one might also notice a reduction in hay fever symptoms, migraines and earaches. The cold mashed up pulp has been used to counter burns and the leaves have been used to reduce the swelling in sprains, lower fevers, cure diarrhea, and ward off cancer.

The seeds are remarkable. The consumption of the seeds reduces prostate enlargement and reduces the possibility of prostate cancer. The seeds have been used for kidney problems, including kidney stones, for gout, edema and even getting rid of tape worms. Another miracle: the seed oil reduces symptoms of female hormone insufficiency.
We would all benefit by eating more of this wonderful squash. Pumpkins aren’t just for carving and smashing.

In the book Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman there are many references to foods that help prevent cancer and other diseases. Following are some quotes from the book.

Pg. 5; High protein diet (and diets rich in animal products and low in fruits and unrefined carbohydrates) are likely to significantly increase a person’s risk of colon cancer. Scientific studies show a clear and strong relationship between cancers of the digestive tract, bladder and prostate with low fruit consumption.

Pg. 35; Fruit consumption has been shown in numerous studies to offer our strongest protection against certain cancers, especially oral and esophageal, lung, prostate, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer.

Pg. 55; Observational studies around the world continue to find that the risk of colorectal cancer is lower among populations with high intakes of fruits and vegetables and that the risk changes on adoption of a different diet.

Pg. 62; Raw vegetables and fresh fruits have powerful anti-cancer agents. Studies have repeatedly shown the correlation between consumption of these foods and a lower incidence of various cancers, including those of the breast, colon, rectum, lung, stomach, prostate, and pancreas. This means that your risk of cancer decreases with an increased intake of fruits and vegetables, and the earlier in life you start eating large amounts of these foods, the more protection you get.

Pg. 80; The major cause of all diseases afflicting Americans today is a produce-deficient diet. On any given day, no fruit whatsoever passes the lips of half of all Americans.

Pg. 90; Vegetable and fruits protect against all types of cancers if consumed in large enough quantities. Raw vegetables have the most powerful anti-cancer properties of all foods.

Pg. 160; many diets have people afraid to eat healthful fresh fruits because they contain carbohydrates. Fruit consumption, however, shows powerful dose-response association with a reduction in heart disease, cancer and all-cause mortality.

Pg. 226; a high intake of refined grains in the diet is linked to common cancers. A high intake of fruits has the opposite effect. Fruits protect powerfully against cancer.

There are many diets that don’t allow any fruits to be eaten. Some of those diets are anti-cancer diets. Others are weight loss diets. The research I have done points to fresh fruits and vegetables to be the main foods that help prevent cancer and other major illnesses. In order to overcome illness and disease it is suggested that 80 percent of the calories eaten come from fresh fruits and vegetables. Any patient of Dr. Christopher’s who had an incurable illness was put on a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds and when they followed that diet most of them got well. Hopefully our readers are enjoying the abundance of the fresh fruits and vegetables of the season with the intention of having excellent health and vitality.

I recently read a frustrating article in the Deseret News: “Doctors to field colon cancer questions “Disease is Preventable If People Undertake Screening Measures.” According to this article colorectal cancer is entirely preventable by getting a colonoscopy and if cancer is detected it is almost always cured because of the screening measure.

The Center for Disease control stated that colon cancer is the third highest cancer in the country with 1.1 million Americans affected and Utahn’s having a higher rate on average. Dr. Tae Kim, colorectal surgeon, attributes the higher rate to “Utahns tend to live longer.”

Dr. Kim stated, “If we all lived long enough I’m certain that we’d all get colon cancer.” He compared our bowel to a copy machine sloughing the lining daily and then replicating it. This copying will allow opportunism for mutations such as growths in the colon called polyps. These polyps can lead to a deadly form of cancer. He then stated “Various prevention claims such as aspirin, medications, or eating healthier might take longer to produce results.” His final quote was “As long as we catch it early and people don’t wait for symptoms, something can be done about it.”

The claims in this article are causal, the statement “Disease is preventable if people undertake screening measures” leads one to believe that if you take the appropriate test you will not get the related disease. I find this faulty reasoning since the tests such as a colonoscopy detect problems, they do not prevent them. There is also the question of risks associated with the test and do these risks outweigh the benefits?

There are several risks in having a colonoscopy: perforation of the colon wall, bleeding, and heart problems to name a few. Risks seem to increase with age. There are alternative tests available that do not have these risks associated with them such as fecal occult blood tests and virtual colonoscopy.

I also found Dr. Kim’s statement “If we all lived long enough, I’m certain we’d all get colon cancer.” outlandish. Not everyone I know has colon cancer before they die. Yes we might live longer in Utah but that does not necessarily mean that is why we have more colon cancer. In Utah the percentage for smoking and drinking is lower but we also consume more pharmaceuticals, ice cream, sugar, and Jello. Could these play a role in colon health? Since the bowel is eliminating the waste from our food, what if the food we put in us is pretty much garbage before we eat it. Could this affect the overall health of our bowel and the ability to cleanse itself and assimilate the nutrients our bodies need? Lifestyle changes such as good nutrition, herbs, exercise, a good amount of sleep, and lowering stress levels are preventative measures to ensure one’s health.

The truth in regards to colon health is that a dirty colon is caused from the garbage we put in our mouth. An excellent book to educate on colon health is “Dr. Christopher’s Guide to Colon Health“. This book teaches the truth about the importance of keeping a clean and healthy bowel and the cause of disease.
