July 16th, 2015On the Rebound

by: Mishelle Knuteson, M.H.

“Why work out when you can play in?” states David Hall founder of Cellersize rebounder. I subscribe to this philosophy. I believe getting in shape and feeling good doesn’t have to be the “no pain, no gain” philosophy. I want exercise to be simple, easy and fast. I want to accomplish a lot in just a short amount of time and I want to see results quickly.

Shortly after I started working for the School of Natural Healing, David and Fawn Christopher had David Hall on their radio show A Healthier You (Clickhere to hear the show) and in Dr. Christopher’s HerbShop to do a demonstration on his rebounder. David Hall asked the question. ” What if you could strengthen all your muscles all at the same time; reduce body fat, improve flexibility, digestion/elimination, back, knee and shoulder health, tighten and tone, improve balance, open lungs, improve coordination, reduce stress, tighten skin and so much more in just 10 minutes a day?!” I was sold.  That was everything I believed exercise could and should be.

If you are like me, when it comes to exercise the hardest part is getting started. Furthermore, if I’m not enjoying it or seeing benefits right away then it goes by the wayside pretty quickly. Who doesn’t love to jump? Even babies love to be bounced. We jump for joy when we are happy, so jumping for health can be a very joyful experience. Another bonus is that I don’t need a gym membership, the right kind of clothes, nor do I even have to leave the house!

One of the health benefits of bouncing on a trampoline is giving the body a full detox. The lymphatic system in our body relies on movement to flush toxins out. Rebounding is by far the most effective exercise for increasing lymphatic flow and draining toxins. Dr. John R. Christopher said, “The exercises that are of greatest value in case of constipation are those which bring into strong action the muscles of the abdomen.” Rebounding fits this description perfectly. Click here to find an extensive list of health benefits by using a rebounder.

I personally chose a Cellersizer as my rebounder. I first purchased one from Walmart that was a lot cheaper yet it was like trying to bounce from the floor. My mom had a Cellersizer and I put it side by side with the one from Walmart and another I had found. In my opinion there was no comparison, the Cellersizer had by far the better, less jarring bounce. For information on ordering one go to Christopher Publications

I use my Cellersizer at least 3 times a week and bounce anywhere from 10-20 minutes depending on the plans for the rest of the day. I will sometimes put on upbeat music and just dance/bounce, I also put together a simple routine from the basic moves that David Hall teaches in one of his videos, and I have found some great routines on YouTube.com that I can follow along with. It is fun to be able to change it up depending on my mood and the time I have available.

The most important thing is to find a type of exercise that works for you so that you will stay with it. If you want to exercise ALL 75 TRILLION CELLS at the same time; a rebounder may be the right type of exercise for you too. Even better, it requires only 10 minutes a day!

July 15th, 2015Neti Pot

by: Mishelle Knuteson, M.H.

Sinus congestion seems to affect many this time of year. Our sinuses have to deal with the dryness of the winter season as well as being closed up in our homes and businesses with the furnace going, stirring up dust and adding to the dryness and pollutants in the air. Sinuses are hollow spaces within the bones of the face. There are three pairs of sinuses: frontal, ethmoid, maxillary and one single sinus at the base of the skull called sphenoid. Each of these connect to the nose through a small opening called ostia. The ostia acts to humidify and warm the air we breathe, add to our sense of smell and taste, and plays a significant role in the quality of sound we hear. That is why when our nasal passages are clogged we don’t taste or hear things as well.

Sinuses are lined with a mucous membrane called mucosa. Mucosa acts as a filter to trap inhaled germs, dust pollens and environmental pollutants before they reach the respiratory system. When the sinuses are inflamed or irritated the ostia becomes blocked.  If the mucous membranes dry out, the body produces reactive mucus. In either case the nasal environment is disturbed and the mucous accumulation becomes a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria. A way to help protect and clear the sinus passages is by using a nasal saline irrigation therapy. The most popular means is with a neti pot– a ceramic or plastic pot that looks like a cross between a small teapot and Aladdin’s magic lamp.

The use of the neti pot is a very effective method to clear away crusting in the nasal passages and for relieving symptoms from allergies and environmental irritants that cause congestion and facial pain and pressure. A neti pot works by thinning the mucus and flushing it out of the nasal passages. Use of a saline solution helps the cilia (the tiny hair like structures that line the nasal cavities) draw out the excess mucus and irritants.

To use the neti pot mix 16 ounces of warm distilled water with 1 teaspoon of the finest grind natural salt (sea salt, himalayan, real salt, etc). Some people like to add ½ teaspoon of baking soda to buffer the solution and make it gentler on the nose. I don’t use the baking soda but I do like to add a drop or two of clove or eucalyptus oil to my solution as well as about ¼ teaspoon of either sesame or olive oil. This can be stored up to 5 days in a covered container.  The solution should be close to body temperature when you are using it.

Once the the neti pot is filled, tilt your head over the sink at about a 45-degree angle. Place the spout into your top nostril and gently pour the saline solution into that nostril. The fluid will flow through your nasal cavity and out the other nostril. Blow your nose to get rid of any remaining liquid, then refill the neti pot and repeat the process on the other side. Use about 2 to 4 ounces in each nostril. You shouldn’t have any of the solution run down your throat.  However, if you do just spit it out.

You can use the neti pot daily, 3-4 times a day if needed in chronic conditions and after that three times a week is enough to keep your nasal passages clear and cleaned out. Under normal circumstances, you should not feel any burning or stinging. If there is any discomfort you can use less salt in your solution or change the temperature of your water. Keep the neti pot clean by rinsing with warm water and air drying between uses, or wash in the dishwasher.

October 14th, 2014Giving Your Skin Breath…

Tonya Judd M.H.

Our skin is our largest organ and is often referred to as our 3rd kidney. Our skin receives 1/3 of the blood circulated in the body and 25% of the bodies toxins are released through our skin each day. That’s 1/4 of the body’s detoxification that occurs through the skin!  Adults eliminate over 1 pound of waste acids each day through sweat glands, yet the skin is the last organ we think of giving nutrients to and is the first to show signs of imbalance. Some signs of imbalance in the skin include: acne, cracked skin, dry skin, cellulite, brown spots, etc. Our skin needs to breathe and it needs nutrients. If our skin is clogged with dead skin cells, the elimination that should occur there is forced upon the kidneys and liver.

There is an easy yet amazing measure you can take to help your skin breathe, it is dry skin brushing. The benefits of dry skin brushing are numerous and essential for beautiful glowing skin. Dry skin brushing helps the skin to breathe by removing dead skin cells and opening clogged pores.

Dry skin brushing is best done once a day in the morning before showering. There is an order and direction in which you should brush. Please watch these videos for detailed instruction;

(for your body)

(for your face)

This process should take approximately 10-15 minutes each morning. Also, use a good natural soap without chemicals and perfumes. If you find that you need to use a moisturizer try almond oil, coconut oil or other natural oil that will feed your skin and your body. Remember whatever you place on your skin is absorbed directly into the blood stream, so be wise in your choice of what you are “feeding” your skin and your body. Once you have been skin brushing for a few weeks you should start to notice the lessened need for moisturizers. You can get a brush almost anywhere just make sure it has natural fiber bristles.

Some of the amazing benefits you will see include:

-smooth glowing skin

-encourages the body’s discharge of metabolic waste so the body is able to run more effectively

-helps ingrown hairs

-moves lymph

-stimulates nerve endings

-stimulates hormone glands

-tones muscles

-tightens skin

-stimulates circulation

-reduces cellulite

-stimulates oil glands and helps the skin produce protective and moisturizing oils

-strengthens the immune system

-diminishes stretch marks considerably

-opens the pores and allows your body to easily release toxins through sweating

October 14th, 2014Natural Anti-Oxidants

David Christopher M.H.

The plant kingdom produces anti-oxidants to counter the oxygen and probable oxidative damage which is created in its production of carbon from CO2. Scientists have observed that people, who eat large amounts of fruits and vegetables high in anti-oxidants, are less likely to develop cardio vascular disease and cancer than those eating less of those foods. It has also been noted that Green Tea, which is unprocessed, is extremely high in anti-oxidants where black tea which is the same plant, but processed, is high in hydrogen peroxide which is reactive oxygen.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School have shown that one of the causes of heart disease is the free radical oxygen damage to LDLs, lipid and protein substances that deliver fatty acids to cells. Free radical oxygen also plays a role in diseases as diverse as diabetes, dementia and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Even though supplements neutralize free radical oxygen in test tubes it hasn’t translated to usefulness in the body. Unfortunately, supplements of anti-oxidants have proven worthless if not harmful. The best example of this failure is beta-carotene. It was observed in the 1970’s that people who ate a lot of carrots, which are high in beta-carotenes, had protection against cancer. In 1992 researchers at the National Cancer Institute recruited 18,000 participants who were at high risk of developing cancer because of smoking or asbestos exposure. Half were given beta-carotene and half a placebo. The trial was supposed to last for six years but was halted two years early after discovering that those taking the supplement were developing cancer 28% more than the controls who were receiving a placebo.

The famed nurses’ study that tracked the health of 87,000 female nurses showed a 47% decrease, in cancer rates, for those consuming vitamin E rich foods. However Vitamin E supplements have not shown similar positive results. For positive results, we should get our anti-oxidants from foods, not supplements. Fresh Juicing of fruits and vegetables is natures’ way of supplementation.

Here is a list of anti-oxidant foods:

Blue and red berries and grapes

All nuts especially walnuts, pecans, and Brazil nuts

Beans especially pinto and red beans

Cherries, plums and apples

August 25th, 2014Adrenal Burnout

Tara Pierce M.H.

One of the Adrenal glands main functions is acting as a buffer to stress. They do not differentiate between physical and mental stress and respond in the same way to both. Every type of stress influences these glands; injury, divorce, work, finances, diets, pain, excessive exercise, junk food, kids, spouse, menstruation and so on. It is easy to get stuck in a stress cycle and over work these glands into burnout. Burnout is defined as a major breakdown in the energy producing systems of the body. It goes far beyond fatigue and can be devastating to every aspect of one’s life.

The number one symptom of Adrenal Burnout Syndrome is exhaustion or chronic fatigue. Some other symptoms are cravings for sweets or attraction to stimulants, difficulty with digestion, weight gain around the belly leaving arms and legs thin, inability to cope with daily life, hypoglycemia or diabetes, changes in mood and personality, depression, fears and phobias, anxiety, lack of interest in appearance, loss of concentration, shortness of breath, dark circles around the eyes, puffiness in the face and edema in the feet, and loss of muscle tone, among others. Adrenal burnout can be triggered by a single severe stress but more often it occurs slowly after years of imbalance in life and inadequate nutrition.

Recovering from adrenal burnout involves dedication to re-evaluating one’s life and making the necessary lifestyle changes to decrease and even eliminate unnecessary stress. A good clean diet full of live, whole foods is essential as is using plenty of digestive enzymes to boost assimilation of nutrients. I would also recommend doing Dr. Christopher’s Extended Herbal Cleansewith the addition of the Heavy Mineral Bugleweed Formula. To treat the burnout specifically I would add Dr. Christopher’s Adrenal, Thyroid Maintenance, and Master Gland Formula’s. Recovery can take time, but the more dedicated you are to treating yourself right the quicker you will regain your energy and strength to feel like yourself again.

August 25th, 2014Red Clover

Jo Francks MH

Red clover is an herb that is given to us as a blessing for many different ailments. It has been used for centuries and is well known as a treatment and prevention for cancer. It is also useful as a tonic for nerves and as a sedative for nervous exhaustion. It has been mentioned as a treatment for bronchial troubles and whooping cough. It is healing to wounds and can be made into an ointment for the treatment of wounds and skin problems like psoriasis and eczema.

Modern research has found that red clover blossoms contain isoflavones, plant based chemicals that produce estrogen-like effects in the body. Isoflavones have shown potential in the treatment of a number of conditions associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, cardiovascular health, and osteoporosis.

Dr. Christopher’s Blood Stream formula is based around red clover blossoms having 6 parts of the herb. Some women have found that taking the Blood Stream formula for other conditions has reduced their frequency of hot flashes. The Blood Stream formula is used along with the Lower Bowel, Kidney, and Liver Gallbladder formulas as an extended herbal cleanse. Start the herbal cleanse by taking 2 capsules of the Lower Bowel formula 3 times a day and 2 capsules of the kidney formula twice a day. These two formulas are taken for two weeks before adding the Liver Gallbladder formula, 2 capsules 3 times a day or a dropper-full of the extract 3 times a day. Stay on these 3 formulas for another week and then add the Bloodstream formula, 2 capsules 3 times a day. It is recommended that these formulas be taken for six weeks and up to six months always resting from the formulas on the seventh day.

Red Clover has a direct action in improving the nutrition of the brain. It is especially helpful when there is general mental failure, with loss of memory of words, or when there is confusion of ideas of functional causes. It is also useful when there is weakness of the lower extremities, or of the feet from deficient capillary circulation.

This is an herb that can be gathered when the blossoms are in full bloom and is safe to use for many ailments.

August 25th, 2014True Patterns of Health

Kelly Pomeroy M.H.

Pain or discomfort is a natural signaling mechanism our body uses to tell us that it needs something. These signals are often ignored or labeled as old age. We might even take a pill to turn the pain off. When a car runs low on gasoline, the auto’s gas light comes on, signaling to put gas into the tank before it runs out. We don’t pull out the fuse to stop the signal from telling us we are low on gasoline. We know we will get stuck if we don’t listen. There is a great lesson to be learned in the up keep of a car and the up keep of the amazing gift of our bodies.

Ibn Butlan (around 1038 AD), was an Arab Christian who wrote a book regarding the restoration and preservation of good health called the Taquin asSihhah. He taught that clean air, moderate diet, rest and work, emotional health, and elimination (bowel and bladder) were key to maintaining health. When any of these were lacking, sickness occurred. In addition to all of these valuable habits he lists, I add that drinking plenty of clean water is vital to our body’s health. Most of our society is dehydrated. This simple step taken out of the equation of health can give us headaches, irritability, constipation, and loss of energy.

Some true patterns of health are:

1. Drink plenty of clean, clear water. More than 70% of our body is made of water and needs to be replenished daily by at least 8 cups and up to one gallon of water for an adult. Distilled water is best. Drinking water will aid our bowels and bladder in elimination.

2. Get the sleep and rest you need. Generally 8 hours of sleep is required for the body to perform its functions.

3. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. The average diet today is heavy laden with processed foods and animal products (dairy, meat, eggs, etc.). They have a high calorie, low nutrient ratio, robbing the body of essential vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals. Animal hormones can also interfere with our own.

4. Exercise your body and breathe deeply, this benefits both the body and the mind. Our lymph system is activated by our physical movement.

5. Proper Elimination. Three times a day we should be having a healthy bowel movement. Urine should be a very light lemon color. Dark urine is an indication of dehydration. Fiber rich foods, high water intake, and reduced stress all attribute to healthy elimination.

6. Emotional Health. Max Muller, a German scholar once said, “A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love.” Emotions have a physiological effect on us. Feelings Buried Alive Never Die by Karol Truman is an excellent book that teaches how the body, heart, and mind are tied together and how to heal emotionally and physically. The teachings of Jesus Christ found in The Holy Bible are simple tools to teach forgiveness, faith, love, gratitude, and respect.

When warning signals go off in our body (pain), we would be wise to take a simple evaluation of these patterns of health. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the things we want to change. Find one thing you can improve upon and work on that. Remember, it is the small and simple things we do that make all the difference. Little by little, as we reach for truth and health, doors of understanding will open. Little successes can have a huge impact on our health. Best wishes to you in your journey to greater health!

June 30th, 2014Janie V.

Janie V. was born and raised in New Jersey. She has worked in a medical environment for over twenty-five years. After raising three children with her husband Frank of thirty years, it was her regular routine to get a medical checkup each year. In the eighth month of two thousand twelve, she had a mammogram done. The test results came back positive. She had developed breast cancer in her right breast. The doctor recommended that she get treatment and surgery. He also discouraged researching breast cancer on the internet. In other words, he was the final authority when it came to breast cancer.

Janie decided to try to follow the doctor’s orders. She was treated with chemotherapy every 3 weeks for 5 treatments which also included a shot to force her bones to produce white blood cells. Just before her fifth chemo treatment the nurse drew blood and her white blood cell count was low. The chemo doctor decided to delay it for a week. The following week she had her fifth chemo treatment at a lower dosage. She felt as if her body was getting weaker and weaker. She didn’t know how much more of this type of treatment her body could handle.

At about this time, a friend of Franks’ (who is a student at the School of Natural Healing) was giving him information and praying that Janie would consider another form of treatment. He was giving them information, websites and periodicals. Frank gladly took this information, but stood with his wife, knowing that she had to make this important decision for herself. On the second month of two thousand thirteen, Janie started on the mucus less diet. She took several of Dr. Christopher’s formulas and changed her eating habits drastically.

After about four months, she went back to her Surgeon for a follow up. Janie asked him when she should get her next mammogram. The doctor recommended that it be done after she was finished with her radiation. When she told him that she was not getting the radiation treatment he became livid. He began to belittle her telling her that if she didn’t, she would have a fifty percent chance of getting the cancer back in two years. He also implied that a change of diet would have little to no effect on her cancer. He argued with her saying, “Don’t you want to be around for your Grandchildren?” Needless to say Janie felt discouraged but was determined not to have the radiation treatment.

The following day, Janie and Frank made a trip to visit her father in Georgia. As they headed out, they prayed to YaHuWeh to give them guidance with their situation. On their way to Georgia, they stopped at a hotel for the night. Before they began to settle in to rest, Frank turned on the T.V. While flipping through the channels, he stumbled upon a doctor who was speaking about how nutrition can help fight cancer. He called Janie over and soon they were both watching the doctor explain how a plant based life style could help prevent cancer. They anxiously waited until the end of the program so they could get more information about this doctor. They found out his name was Dr. Fuhrman (author of Eat to Live) and he was located one hour away from their home in New Jersey! They agreed that this was an answer to their prayers.

After they had returned from Georgia, she made an appointment with Dr. Benson (Dr. Fuhrman’s associate) and began to change the way she thought about nutrition. While she started to change her eating habits, Frank decided to join her and they were able to make drastic changes to their habits together. Together they viewed the documentary, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”, and it began to educate them on natural foods and a natural lifestyle. She started to lose weight (over 30 pounds), feel great, and was alive with vigor. Her pant size went into a single digit. Janie was getting her energy back. She cut out most of the dairy and meat in her diet. The tingling in her fingers, which had been a side effect to the chemotherapy, started to go away.

After about two months, she went back to her doctors who had worked with her through the chemotherapy for another checkup. They encouraged her to get another mammogram. The test results showed that no cancer remained. It was gone. But even as she breathed a sigh of relief, the doctor informed her that they had found an abnormal calcium build up in her other breast. But she did not let this discourage her. In fact, she was even more determined to follow through and take care of her health.

At her doctor’s appointment with Dr. Fuhrman’s office, she met with his associate Dr. Benson. He shared a nutritional plan called the G- BOMBS. G-BOMBS stands for greens, berries, onions, mushrooms, beans and seeds. This nutritional punch would help to prevent the cancer from returning again.

Today Janie is a miracle testimony of what the Creator YaHuWeH wants all his children to have: Health, Wellness, Happiness, Peace and Knowledge of how to maintain it and to share it with others.

Are you excited? I am! Let’s get healthy!

June 30th, 2014My Journey

Cynthia Sumner

In my early 20’s when I was in my first years of marriage, with a brand new baby, I had the blessing of learning about The School of Natural Healing. My husband faced some health issues from living out of the country; I had health issues from eating mostly dead food my whole life and emotional trauma from a dysfunctional home. And on top of everything I worried about how to take care of my baby when she had fevers and earaches.

I had a very touching and real experience as I listened and watched some of the teachings from Dr. Christopher. From the top of my head, through my body, down to my toes, I felt a surge of energy, almost a voice that told me I would be mentored and educated through the School of Natural Healing and one day teach and consult individuals to heal. As I studied, experienced and opened my heart and mind truths flowed to me. I knew that I had a gift and responsibility to support and educate individuals to heal physically so they could heal emotionally and spiritually.

I was able to use what I learned to help my husband heal, myself heal physically and emotionally and to build a foundation of confidence to know what my baby needed and how to take care of her. How wonderful it felt to be self-sufficient. Knowledge is power!

With my second pregnancy I began to miscarry at 3 months. I read all I could and prayed. I was impressed to use specific herbs and to eat a strict healthy diet. It was easy to do because I knew it was for this spirit that needed to come to earth. I delivered that baby boy full term, the doctor told me my son was a miracle baby and that he really didn’t think he had any chance of making it. The same problems happened with my last 2 pregnancies and both were delivered full term healthy and strong! I know my knowledge of the body and what it needs allowed my three sons to grow strong inside me and to bless this world with their presence. What a blessing it has been not only for my family in so many ways, too many to share here, but for hundreds of my clients now. I have watched client after client heal from tumors, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, infertility, depression, anxiety, excess weight, skin problems and more. More importantly, and usually surprising to my clients, is the clarity, confidence, self- love, success, renewal in relationships with spouse, kids, parents, co-workers and best of all God. Clarity allows us to see the opportunities that have always been there or to attract opportunities to us. Joy, purpose and a desire to help others is the result of finding balance.

June 30th, 2014Constipated Babies

Tonya Judd

Over the course of the past few weeks I have received quite a few phone calls concerning constipated babies. Most of these sweet, new little beings have not had a bowel movement within a 7-10 day time period.  Their tummies were hard and when they would try to eliminate, they would cry because of the pain caused from the hardened stools. Their concerned and loving mothers were at a loss as to what to do for such little ones. In most cases breastfed babies do not have a problem with constipation, but it can happen. On the other hand, formula fed babies do tend to have frequent bouts with constipation. If this is the case, you might try switching formulas or switch to goats’ milk which is much less mucus forming. If you are breastfeeding, your baby should have a bowel movement each time they nurse. If this is not happening, do not be alarmed, but look at your own diet and the foods you may be consuming that may be causing constipation. Regardless of your situation, if your wee one is having constipation issues you can try some of the following remedies to alleviate constipation and bring your baby relief.

            1.  Dr. Christopher’s Kid-E-Reg Formula. The Kid-E-Reg Formula is a gentle bowel formula that supports the intestines, acts as a mild laxative, and is safe to use for an extended period of time.  It contains: Slippery Elm Bark, Licorice Root, Fennel Seed, Anise Seed & Fig Syrup in a glycerin base.

2.  Molasses water. 1/2 to 1 teaspoon black strap molasses to 8 ounces of water. This can be given by using an eye dropper or adding to a bottle. Molasses softens hardened stools making elimination easy and painless and is soothing to the intestinal tract.  Molasses is also a great source of iron.

3.  Licorice Tea. Licorice is a mild laxative, and stimulates peristaltic action.

4.  Lemon water. Lemon increases bile and peristalsis which causes a bowel movement.

5.  Diluted prune juice. Softens the stools and is very nutritive.

6.  Gently massaging the abdomen in the area of the colon. This can be done using extra virgin olive oil.

7.  Reflexology. Work the area on the foot that corresponds with the large and small intestines.

8.  Exercising/bicycling your baby’s legs. The colon is a smooth muscle and becomes more efficient with exercise. This simple exercise can help to get the peristaltic action going just like when we as adults exercise.

9.  A warm catnip enema. Lay your baby on a towel in the tub and keep the upper half of their body covered for warmth. Never give all of the solution at once. Remember to go slowly with babies and massage the abdomen as you go.

10. The Lower Bowel Extract. This formula can be used on babies if the Kid-E-Reg is not producing the desired results. The dosage would obviously not be what is listed on the bottle. You could start with 5-10 drops and work up if needed. This formula contains Cascara Sagrada Bark, Barberry Bark, Cayenne Pepper, Ginger Root, Lobelia Herb, Red Raspberry Leaf, Turkey Rhubarb Root, Fennel Seed and Goldenseal Root in a base of pure vegetable glycerin and distilled water.
