Alfalfa makes a great green drink! Wash it, take off the tough stems, fill your blender (loosely) with your greens, then cover and blend it in apple, pineapple or orange juice. You can add spinach or kale or parsley or chard too. We even add fresh comfrey leaves in the summertime. Or frozen banana chunks. Blend well. Strain if desired. My kids love this!

Great article - there's a clarification to make though. There seems to be a contradiction here about the safety of ginger, but I think both statements are accurate: Ginger, in normal, small doses during an illness, or used externally (like the foot soak mentioned) can be beneficial and completely safe. Near the beginning of pregnancy in huge doses or where a miscarriage is threatening, ginger could aggravate inflammation. Herbs that aggravate the bowels can stimulate contractions as well (that's the principle that castor oil works by)I'm sure someone could draw the line for us better than I have, but there's my 2 cents worth. :)
Thanks again for the article! It addresses a question I have had almost constantly for the past ten years (pregnant or nursing). For the flu, I wouldn't be without yarrow and garlic. They work wonders.
Also stay WELL HYDRATED!!!

Regarding the herbs listed, I have a few questions.
Under Cayenne (and a few others) you have listed extract, powder 1# and ointment. Is this to store each of these? And if so, what size of extract and ointments (1 oz. or larger?) for 4 people.

Yes, a good one for people to add to their weekly diet regiment. I have been using this for a long time. I also remember watching my grandmother add a tablespoon to a small amount of water and drinking it. She didn't quite give me a substantial answer at the time, she just did it. Funny, how years later, you understand why. I guess Grandma intuitively knew to just do it. Love the article.

Rachel,

Not a dumb question at all!

You just continue on with all 4 formulas after the rest.

This additional information is very helpful. I am a little confused with this program, and have a question I hope someone can help me with. After the 7th week (resting), do you start over at the beginning again with just the Lower Bowel Formula and the Kidney formula and add the others on week 2 and week 4, or can you just continue where you left off and take all 4 formulas? I know it's probably a dumb question, but I needed a little clarification.
Thanks for your help!

What is the best way to combat this flu when pregnant? And what should be done with a fever? Is the cold-sheet treatment safe for the fetus when pregnant?

Thank you, David for the article on Echinacea. It will be handy to keep with my cold and flu remedies/herbal first aid kit. Also knowing the dosages and length of time to take is very helpful. I enjoy and look forward to the Herbal Legacy newsletter each week.
