What is the best way to combat this flu when pregnant? And what should be done with a fever? Is the cold-sheet treatment safe for the fetus when pregnant?

Thank you, David for the article on Echinacea. It will be handy to keep with my cold and flu remedies/herbal first aid kit. Also knowing the dosages and length of time to take is very helpful. I enjoy and look forward to the Herbal Legacy newsletter each week.

I'm loving your newsletter thank you. I would like to ask a
question or two about the article on echinacea. Firstly if someone has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (RA) are they still OK to take echinacea? She is not taking prescription drugs although they were initially prescribed, but is taking naturopathically recommended herbs. Wondering about taking echinacea if flu is suspected.
Secondly, can you build up a tolerance to echinacea over time so that you need to take more of it, or so that it becomes less beneficial?

I've just recovered from H1N1. Because of my asthma, I ended up with a visit to the hospital (I have never, until that visit, used an inhaler). I typically NEVER get any of the cold/flu bugs that go around, even when my husband, a healthcare worker, gets sick. I eat very healthy, etc. However, this one was fairly violent, and it happened extremely quickly. I know that my dad will not survive it, if he gets it. He has advanced heart-failure with all that accompanies that, and although he is otherwise very healthy in his habits, and active, and stubborn, this one will be too tough for his limited ability to breathe and perfuse. I am crossing my fingers, for all I'm worth, that they get the vaccine in his area before he gets this. He is a Pastor, so he will be exposed. My brother's partner just announced that she is 9 weeks pregnant (following two miscarriages). I am praying that she is able to get a vaccination. These concerns are real - no longer a "position" I am going to take.
I don't get flu shots, and I believe that we weaken ourselves by getting a vaccination for every single thing. The last serious sickness I got was Whooping Cough (at 33 yrs old), because I had been vaccinated as a kid, when it would have been much more minor for my body to deal with. I don't want every virus I've been vaccinated for to someday catch up with me. I agree with most of the above statements about personal health and about the trend of vaccinations. HOWEVER, like antibiotics, vaccinations are STILL a valuable, and critical, tool, when used for those who are especially vulnerable and most likely won't survive an impending virus, or will face ugly consequences and complications from contracting a virus.

I am saying that it is, in a way, dangerous to make the issue of vaccines a big, sweeping "position", as that just polarizes personal decisions and takes reasonable and rational thought out of what is a very personal risk-benefit judgment call. Raising awareness is a good thing, and exposing unhealthy trends is a part of that, but I would hate to be a person who joins and promotes a cause, and lose a person I love because of it.
Even knowing how sick I was (from H1N1), I still would not choose to get a shot, if I could have done it all over again.

I have read many opinions on this swine flu and vaccines. I understand some herbs don't do well with this flu and/or vaccine. I would recommend asking a professional herbologist or naturopath's opinion not just generalizations on the herbal's charactheristics
