We get calls in the office almost daily about water, the alkaline water systems, and wanting to know the school’s advice on water. I hope the article last week about the 9 different types of water enlightened you a bit on the issue. At the School of Natural Healing we use PURE H2O. Nothing added, deleted or changed in the chemical composition. The creator knew what he was doing when he put that formula together.
How do we get PURE H2O? From the book The Choice is Clear, Dr. Allen E. Banik states, “Distilled water is water which has been turned into vapor, so that virtually all its impurities are left behind. Then, by condensing, it is turned back into ‘pure’ water. Distillation is the single most effective method of water purification. It is God’s water for the human race. In a manner of speaking, distillation is nature’s way.”
The common misconception that many people have about distilled water is that it leaches all the minerals from the body. We are even taught in the Master Herbalist course that distilled water is a “hungry water.” Here is what Dr. Banik had to say about that, “The startling fact to remember is that water attracts chiefly inorganic minerals. Organic minerals stay in the tissues, where they belong. The only minerals the body can utilize are the organic minerals. All the others are foreign minerals and must be disposed of or eliminated.” Thus the need for “hungry” water.
Pure water is so important in aiding good and vibrant health. The functions of water in the body (as we learn in level 200 in the Master Herbalist course) are as a lubricant, solvent, transportant, coolent and dispersent. It helps us digest food, maintain proper body temperature, moistens our lungs so that we can breath and helps the trillions of cells in the body to function. Water is the primary ingredient in all the fluids in our body and it helps hydrate the lymph system so that it can function properly, carrying away toxins and contaminates from the body.
When drinking or storing water, pay attention to the type of container you use. The media is currently giving a lot of attention to Bisphenol A (BPA). This is a chemical found in plastic bottles that can leach into the liquid and cause a variety of severe health problems. Recycling code # 7 on plastic (usually found on the bottom of the container) contains BPA. If the recycling code on your bottle is #2 (HDPE - high density polyethylene), or #4 (LDPE - low density polyethylene), or #5 (PP - polypropylene), your bottle is safe. The type of plastic bottle in which water is usually sold is #1, and is only recommended for one time use. Do not refill it. BPA-free containers are safe to use as a water bottle, although stainless steel reusable water bottles are the best option. They don’t allow harmful chemicals to leach into the drinking water.

Thank you for this and the follow-up article on water and for the book recommendation. I have been amazed to learn and observe that hydration seems to be the best way to alkalize the body even if you’re hydrating with acidic distilled water. And when the body is alkaline, we don’t need a huge mineral intake to maintain strong bones (a healthy gut helps too). What do you recommend (in addition to drinking distilled water) for removing inorganic minerals from the body?

Hello, and thank you for these wonderful water articles! Although I prefer glass whenever possible, I am especially glad for a reference on the right types of plastic so I can tell my family, friends and clients!
I do have a question that was not addressed in either article, and I am hoping to hear the School of Natural Healing’s position on this: Kangen Water. There are quite a few people in my area of Western Montana that swear by it. One was even drinking distilled water prior to her use of Kangen, and she really believes it helped her arrive at her next level of healing very quickly. She believes her bone density grew stronger as a result of the switch (and she had issues with this apparently, though I am unaware if she believes the distilled water caused this, or if it was a condition that was there but that the distilled water wasn’t addressing it).
For those who haven’t heard of Kangen water, this is an approximately $5000 machine (sold via MLM) from Japan that, after filtering, the water runs across titanium plates that are charged, whereby the water with positive ions (the acidic) is separated from the water with negative ions (the alkaline), and the alkaline water is what is mostly consumed.
I use distilled water but before use, I like to aerate it and also energize the water with reiki, thus negating any potential claim that it is “lifeless” water energetically (and I use flower essences too). I also tend to drink more herbal infusions (tea) than straight water, of which the minerals in the herbs are readily available.
When dowsing whether I needed Kangen, my pendulum tells me no. However, I can’t ignore what I have noticed from others. If the school has any insight, it is most appreciated!!

This is Dr. Christopher’s herbal program along with using Epsom salts in baths to draw toxins, including inorganic minerals, from the skin.
I understand from other sources that adding lemon juice and plenty of fresh cilantro to your foods may also help this process, and this could be easily implemented with mucusless diet.

We have received some questions and references to articles that show that drinking distilled water is not good for you.
After reading several of the articles, here is what Mishelle Knuteson had to say:
I spoke with David about your concerns and the articles that you sent. Like anything, you will always find two sides to everything. Some on the pro side some on the con side.
The first thing out of David’s mouth was “God doesn’t make a mistake.” The natural way that water is placed on the earth for consumption is through the distilling process. Water by nature is slightly acidic. Our bodies need a balance between alkaline and acid. Water is a natural means for the acidic needs of the body. Whole foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, are the natural way we bring the body the alkaline balance. If we are not eating a wholesome diet then the body will become more acidic, not because of the water we drink. David also mentioned “we are plant eaters not rock eaters”. So our minerals come from the food we eat, there again water is not meant to fulfill that need.
The other thing that David mentioned is the years of success that he has seen with the use of distilled water. Dr Christopher was taken from being in a wheel chair to walking. The only thing he changed was adding distilled water to his regime. For more details read “Why Distilled Water.” in the 3 Day Cleanse book. Also there was a bookkeeper (for the school) who’s knuckles were deformed and huge because of unnatural deposits. Again the only thing she changed in her regime was adding distilled water. The deposits were dissolved and her knuckles were taken back to normal size. There are many other stories that can be related.
As far as I’m concerned the bottom line comes back to your inner voice and what you feel is the truth for you. We make claims, they make claims and in the end you have to choose what you will follow. Since discovering the school in 2006 I have been drinking distilled water. If I drink most any other kind of water there is a “taste” to it that isn’t pleasant to me, pure water doesn’t have a taste. I haven’t noticed any ill effects to my health. I’ve only noticed improvements because I have changed my lifestyle and I have chosen distilled water to a part of that lifestyle.
